HBACA Update, July/August 2009
2009 SOUTHWEST BUILDERS SHOW
With homebuilders and trade contractors working their way through the toughest year on record, the focus in new-home construction is now on innovative ways to make the purchase of a new home competitive with existing home sales, on how to reduce costs on everything from construction to products featured in new homes, and on marketing the homes.
Building on the theme, "It's a Jungle Out There," the 2009 Southwest
Builders Show will present exhibits and seminars designed to help builders and trades begin to move forward in a market of slower growth and smaller profit margins. This year's show will feature new products that are cost effective for new homes. It will also include several educational sessions on ways for builders and trades to reduce costs and maximize profits, and on innovative marketing techniques that will attract new home buyers.
Presented by the Home Builders Association of Central Arizona (HBACA), the 9th Annual Southwest Builders Show will take place Wednesday, Oct.28. As an industry exclusive event, the Southwest Builders Show is not open to the general public and all products and services featured are directly related to new-home construction. HBACA launched this event in 2001 as part of its 50th anniversary celebration. Initially called the Home Builders Expo, the excitement over the inaugural show was curtailed a bit as the event came just a few weeks after 9/11. In spite of this, the show did quite well with 119 exhibitors filling 138 booths, and 812 homebuilding professionals in attendance, enough for HBACA members to ask the association to add the show to its annual calendar of events.
Over the next several years, improvements were made to the Home Builders Expo to ensure it continued to be a top drawing event for the home building community. One of these was the move of HBACA's Annual Forecast Luncheon to the show in 2003.
In 2005, the Home Builders Expo was rebranded as the Southwest Builders Show to become a more regional show, drawing attendees from Nevada, New Mexico and Utah in addition to Arizona. Today, the Southwest Builders Show is the largest business-to-business home building expo in the Southwest.
As in prior years, the 2009 event will feature the ever popular Forecast Luncheon featuring Tim Sullivan of the Sullivan Group. At the Forecast Luncheon, Mr. Sullivan forecasts the housing market for the coming year, utilizing his 25 years of experience in developing growth strategies for the residential real estate market. With signs that the market is beginning to turn, the 2010 housing forecast will be an important one.
Exhibitor sales for the Southwest Builders Show are now open, with discounted pricing for HBACA members. . Attendee registration is scheduled to begin in August. For all the details on attending and exhibiting, please visit www.southwestbuildersshow.com.
